Why This Site?

Business people-showing teamworkI started this website because I care about people, including people I’ve never met and may never meet (in this life, at least).

I truly want everyone to experience genuine happiness in this life and in the life to come.

I believe that true happiness comes about when we correctly perceive, and cooperate with, reality.

I believe that correctly perceiving reality includes, at a minimum, the awareness that:

  • objective truth outside of ourselves really exists
  • we have been given the necessary equipment to “handle the truth” (Jack Nicholson’s famous line to Tom Cruise in the climactic courtroom scene in the 1992 film A Few Good Men notwithstanding): an intellect to understand it, and a will to embrace it
  • the first fundamental fact of all reality is that God exists, and His existence can be demonstrated to be logically necessary and in fact intellectually inescapable. (Christopher Hitchens now knows he was wrong, and Richard Dawkins will discover the same thing one day, too.)
  • the God who exists has revealed Himself to be, in one divine Being, a community of three Persons — the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit — and this can be shown to be, not only revealed truth, but also reasonable
  • to achieve His purposes for His creation, God the Son, the Second Person of this Divine Trinity, became a real human being, whom we know as Jesus Christ
  • to continue until the end of time His three-fold task of teaching us, leading us, and enabling us to share His own life and holiness (corresponding to His three-fold office as Prophet, King, and Priest respectively) Christ established a supernatural, supranational community on earth, His Church, embracing all races and every type of person. This Church is the Roman Catholic Church, and to it all who profess to follow Christ must belong
  • as prophesied in Scripture and permitted by God, the infrastructure and institutions formerly owned and operated by Christ’s Church have been, since the Second Vatican Council in the 1960s, effectively taken over by the Church’s historic enemies in a spiritual coup d’état of catastrophic proportions. Because they do not meet even the minimum requirement of holding the historic Catholic Faith, these usurpers do not legally or validly occupy the offices in the Church they pretend to (from the Vatican on down to the dioceses, and all the way to the local parish), but constitute a counterfeit Catholic Church to test people’s powers of discernment in these last days — a test most people tragically fail
  • to make things even more complicated, there also arose, in the aftermath of and in opposition to Vatican II, various traditionalist groups of unauthorized clergy (the SSPX, the SSPV, the CMRI, and others), who, because they operate without a mission or mandate from Christ, constitute a spiritual snare on the right, just as the modernist ‘counterfeit Catholicism of Vatican II constitutes a snare on the left
  • the remnant of true Catholics in these last days must therefore, by God’s grace, successfully steer between the Scylla and Charybdis of modernism on the left and illicit traditionalism on the right, and must take for their model the recusant (“stay-at-home”) Catholics of England during the “Reformation” of the 16th and 17th centuries, as well as similarly-suffering Catholics at other times and places (for example, Catholics holding fast to the Nicene Faith during the Arian crisis of the 4th century when nearly all the bishops of the Eastern empire became heretics; or the Japanese Catholics of the 1600s through the mid-1800s who by persecution and circumstance were deprived of clergy)

smilingmanshaking handI seek to calmly, courteously, compassionately, and creatively make a reasonable case, with compelling evidence, for all the above assertions, and to do so in a way that avoids the superficiality, the sloganeering, the stereotyping, the emotionalism and fanaticism, and the (at times) intellectual dishonesty that have unfortunately all too often disfigured and discredited discussions of the above issues in the past. I hope that even if you disagree vigorously with me, we can, with civility and even affection, carry on an amicable and open-hearted discussion of these all-important matters. Thanks for visiting, and may Almighty God abundantly bless you.
